 
With
a population of 4,460,000 and covering an area of
228,000 square kilometres, Victoria is the most densely
populated of the Australian states and also the most
industrialised.
It’s capital city Melbourne is naturally the
states prime attraction.
Situated on Port Phillip Bay and surrounded by
the meandering Yarra River, Melbourne has grown
dramatically with inspired architecture, nurtured
gardens and urban design that is recognised worldwide.
It is a cosmopolitan city rich in cultural
diversity and it claims to be the fashion, food and
cultural capital of the nation. Melbourne also boasts a
multitude of sporting venues, and at any time of the
year you can expect to see world class sport being
played including Australian Rules Football, Cricket,
Tennis and the Australian Grand Prix Motorcar and
Motorcycle racing.
Of course Victoria is much more than its capital city.
To the south east of Melbourne is Phillip Island
with its Penguin Parade at dusk, and further south,
Wilsons Promontory – one of Australia’s best loved
national parks. The Great Ocean Road runs south west
towards
South Australia and it has some of the most
spectacular coastal scenery in the world.
Heading east towards the New South Wales border
there is superb rainforests in the East Gippsland
region.
Victoria’s stretch of the Great Dividing Range
includes the Victorian Alps with have some of the best
ski fields in Australia, and of course the ever popular
and beautiful scenic Dandenong Ranges are less than an
hour from Melbourne which incorporates the famous wine
growing region of the Yarra Valley.
The spectacular Grampians are situated further to
the west along with gold country areas of Ballarat and
Bendigo.
Finally,
there’s the Murray River region in the north which is
home to the many historic river towns.
